Understanding Blood Tests
Blood tests are a common feature in the medical examinations as they form the basis for the later treatment of a disease. Based on the blood test reports, the doctors can properly diagnose the patient’s ailment and prescribe appropriate drugs. There can be many different reasons for having a blood test done like testing for pregnancy, cancer, cholesterol, blood sugar, blood grouping, getting married, heart disease etc.
Blood Tests are done by medically trained nurses and doctors. There are three types of blood tests which include Biochemical Analysis, Molecular Profiling and Cellular Evaluation. Blood tests are mainly done on the plasma and serum which are important components of the blood. The most common type of blood tests is Full Blood Count, Kidney & Liver Function, Blood Sugar Level, Blood Clotting Test, Blood Cholesterol, Blood Grouping and Thyroid Function.
One of the significant things about blood tests is the ability to accurately read the blood test reports which is no mean feat for a lay person. There are multiple questions related to the tests and one should really take help from the primary health care provider in reading out the reports. Blood Tests are basically simple tests which should invariably not be a cause of concern. But some people cannot stand the sight of blood and this can cause some discomfort to them. Some minor infections can be caused during the insertion of the needle and while drawing it out. This may lead to some pain and bleeding.
